About us

We are a small group of mainly ‘Cornish Maids’ (a spin off from Champagne Cornwall Chorus), coming together through a mutual love of music and song. Most of us come from around the St Austell Bay area.

Striving to be that little bit different, we sing our own arrangements of Cornish songs, shanties and like to revive old folk songs. Even introducing some blues and barbershop, all in our own unique Acapella harmony style.

Formed in early 2016, later in that year we were so proud to be invited in the summer to sing at the Tywardreath Shanty Festival. We were quaking in our boots but received a very warm welcome as we sang through our repertoire. We brought our session to a close performing our own arrangement of Harry Glasson’s now famous song “Cornwall my Home”!

Harry was in the audience that day and commented as we came off stage “ Everywhere I go I love to hear that song in all the different arrangements, but your rendition was ‘astounding’.”

Praise indeed! Although still shaking with nerves we were walking on air!.

From that performance an invitation came to sing at Fowey RNLI Festival and since then we have not looked back, performing at many events around the county. We went from strength to strength over the next couple of seasons and in the autumn of 2018 were proud to be invited to sing at the largest festival in the south west - the Falmouth Shanty Festival of 2019.

With growing confidence we performed in different venues at Falmouth loving our appreciative audiences and were invited to return the following year. We were also invited to participate in the Bristol Folk Festival 2020.

Sadly, the Covid 19 pandemic happened and disappointingly all festivals were gradually cancelled. Most festivals are now cancelled for 2021 as well.

Undeterred and not wishing to let grass grow under our feet we still get together over Zoom. It’s great to keep up with everyone and discuss what we have been doing and to decide on the new songs we would like to do in the future. We are still practising at home and learning new songs in our own arrangements.

We feel very privileged to be able to call on the help and musical expertise of the MDs from our mother group Champagne Cornwall Chorus; Ann Moody, Carole Clemes and Liz Blackler, who arrange some of our songs. We so value your support ladies, THANK YOU! One of our baritones, Chris Seaman, is also working her way around arrangements and has done two for us so far. Well done Chris and thank you too!

Like most singing groups we are all very much looking forward to being able to actually practise together again in person, when allowed; doing what we love to do…… Singing and entertaining.
